I feel ya girl. I feel ya.

Fiona hasn't been on a field trip since first grade. Yeah. That was another school system, and while that seems like a tiny tiny small thing, it adds up. She has no idea what it'd be like to go with classmates to a place without constant supervision and how to behave in those sitatutions.

We've been looking at private schools and while I'd have to go back to work a job that would suck I miss miss miss things like music classes and art classes that were more than once every other week. And the rounded out education. Education is so much more than books and classroom learning.

We've finally decided that because her school isn't picking up their slack and we can't afford private just yet we are going to purposefully do things with the children at least 2 weekends a month to encourage a "learning spirit". It's part home school and part just trying to make well rounded little people.

Best of luck to you all.

It is so sad about field trips. I was thinking the other day how we used to have multiple field trips every year and I can't remember the last one Damon had during regular school hours. There are plenty of free things and I bet parents would be willing to chip in 2 or 3 dollars for gas.

I think its only going to get worse too. I am not sure how much the republicans in this state care about education. I just hope Obama helps get things back on track.

I don't know if you've caught this from past entries, but one of the main reasons that I'm an unemployed teacher is that I teach art. Well, I taught art. Back when people thought art was important.

I'm so sorry to hear about this orchestra program going by the wayside. Band was truly my salvation in high school. If I hadn't had it, I can't imagine what life would've been like. Yeah, sports and computers and all this other extraneous stuff are fine. But kids NEED creativity. For some of them, it's the only outlet they've got.

I can't begin to imagine what they've cut from the Anderson County School System. Sorry to hear they cut it. That's really bad of them.

Sometime we need to hang out for coffee, or tea, or something. You're the only one of the more established goths that's still in the area that I can talk to.

You go to Temple any?
