2. YELLOW
"You collect comic books?"
That came out less 'making conversation with the new roommate,' and more 'that's kind of weird,' than Billy had intended. But Nick just looked up from his stash of plastic bags and said, "Only special editions and first issues." He smoothed out the comic book sitting on his desk, even though it looked perfectly flat already to Billy. "The ordinary stuff isn't worth as much."
"So you collect them, but you don't read them." Billy leaned forward on his bed. From here, he could almost see the cover of the book Nick was fondling: a guy in yellow and black spandex with big-ass claws, kicking butt.
"Not too many." Nick slid the comic into the bag, slow and carefully. "I like X-Men. Lots of hot babes, and Wolverine kicks ass." He held up the bagged comic book so Billy could see it more clearly.
In yellow spandex? Stupid question, so Billy didn't ask it. He'd figured that much out since he was a kid watching Superman on TV: superheros always wore spandex, no matter how stupid it looked. Maybe body armor. "Cool," he said out loud. "Any others?"
"Not really. Most of them are for kids."
The hell? Since when was Batman and Superman for kids, and X-Men for adults? But saying that went beyond 'you're kind of weird' into picking a fight, so Billy just shrugged and let Nick get back to bagging his comic books.
