I've come to the conclusion that I have an addiction. It's not one that I often indulge in and in fact I try to fight it as often as possible. As of this moment, it does not physically affect me or others around me ( Read more... )

Yes. Being able to identify it doesn't mean much except that you are being honest and everyone who thinks they can control an addiction eventually realizes they cannot, but then it's too late, so telling yourself it is small is just procrastination.

If addicts could control themselves they wouldn't be addicts.

If you can quit cold turkey right now, then no, you don't need outside help. Fandom is not an addiction. Reading books is not an addiction. It's only addiction if it's bad for you and/or harms others IMHO.

I would agree that it is only a problem if it harms the individual or others. This issue honestly brings harm to no one. If ever there was danger of this changing, I would certainly seek assistance.
