I've already tried --rebuild-tree -S no luck. I followed the directions to zero the 64k (byte or block, i cant remember right now) and try rebuilding the superblock. Still no luck.

The windows tool seems to find a lot of things with correct file sizes so
the metadata is definately there, I just need to correctly parse it out.

I will give foremost a try. it seems promising for my jpgs. i may have to create a scanner for the nikon raws and other docs.
thanks.
