Are you allowed to legally drive if you only have one eye?

well if people with no hands and arms can drive or no legs and feet, i don't see how someone who's only missing one eye wouldn't be able to. you probly just need to demonstrate that you are still capable in every way of driving even though you are missing an eye.

Well, when you have only one eye, you lose your depth perception, so you cannot accuratly gauge the distance of objects, which means you might run over a gopher or something.

but people with two eyes still run over gophers and things.

Haha, nope.

I lost a contact this afternoon and have been trying to work without it and I found that it is easiest if I close the deficient eye. So this got me thinking about how reduced your field of vision is if you only have one eye which lead to the driving question.

Ahhh Rich, you see, great minds think alike. My thoughts were the same.

Uh, my first instinct is no. With only one eye you have less accurate depth perception (which then fades to essentially zero as time wears on, but a long period of time so I don't think that's the problem here) and basically an entire blind side that would make it much more difficult to drive.

So yeah, you could drive like that, but it would be a lot less safe/more challenging.

Also, there can be adjustments made to driving apparatus for people with no arms or legs (handbrakes etc.) but I don't think that technology has advanced enough to give Katy a temporary eye good enough for driving.

Nono - not me, other people. I have a replacement contact on it's way. But I suppose I would have driven anyways, although I would probably take out some bikes & pedestrians along the way.

Yeah, I could see (har har) that happening.

But I was talking about until the replacment contact came and people would automatically generalize it from you to other...people....nevermind. This is too complicated yes I was only talking about you.

Are you vision impaired if you've had laser eye surgery?

I think only if your vision was so bad before that the surgery didn't correct it to 20/20.

A friend of mine got it done, I'll ask next time I see him.
