Fun & frustration

The fun: I got an iPod Touch (16G) yesterday. Wheee!

The frustration: I can connect to every wi-fi network in the world... except the one at home. Grrrr!

All the techie answers I've found via Google are either too technical for me to understand (edit the control program for the router), too silly (buy a new router), or include sending me to ( Read more... )

Congrats on the shiny new toy!

Now, about your wireless setup. At a minimum, you have the router and a laptop (probably). Do you have a wireless printer that connects successfully, or is the iTouch the first extra you've added? My first guess is that you set up security on your wireless network, and now you need to tell your iTouch what the password or key is.

Thankees! I'm having a tough time getting it away from Youngest Daughter -- she's already played several games, changed my wallpaper and added contacts.

This is the first wireless thingie (other than the laptop) I've added to our network.

I did tell the iTouch what the password to the WPA is (after a frantic search trying to locate said password) but still, "Unable to join the network" Like I said, I'm not exactly the folks GeekSquad are looking to recruit).

*shrugs* I figure it may be God's way of telling me that I don't need to be spending more time online while I'm at home. ;D

Thank you for asking, btw. I wish I knew enough to be able to tell you something intelligent about the problem, but... *taps head; listens to echo*

How specifically does it not connect?

How does your laptop connect to your wifi?

LOLOLOL. I'm pretty sure the laptop uses magic... other than the Netgear wi-fi, uh, thingy. Every time I try to hook up to the internet (either through an application like Gmail or by touching "Settings" then "Wi-Fi". It detects my network really well, then taunts me by telling me it is unable to connect after I type in the password. I'm positive it's user error, but don't know enough to figure out exactly what that error is.

Thanks for asking, though!

I have to giggle about tetchy wifi. The wifi and router are in our living room. But if you're sitting int eh living room, you cannot get wifi. And it's touch and go in the dining room. But if you go upstairs to the boys' room (about as far as you can get from the living room), you can get wifi loud and clear. I dunno. I think it's just the oldness of the house all that lath and horsehair plaster.

We have similar issues, though our house isn't nearly as well built as yours. Must be something more like gradient air pressure, cat litter dust or maybe it's just something the wifi folks do on purpose to give themselves something to laugh about.
