I can't remember meeeting Stu, but it must have happened at the 1976 worldcon in Kansas City. By the 1977 world in Miami Beach, I knew Stu and had a minor crush on him, which he ignored. Stu always sucked at flirtation, but he was fabulous at friendship ( Read more... )

This is good. This is really good. I wanted to read all of this. Yes, he was awful at flirtation! Yes, he was sharp and fierce. I'm happy to hear about his life before I blew into fandom.

We had a really good talk at the Reno Worldcon. I am glad to have that memory.

Ah, those are good and wise memories. Unless, as B. points out, you wish to have ten kids, early thirties is a good age to meet, says the couple who also met at that age. As one who had known Andi well and Stu in passing previously, I was pleased that they had made the connection.

Perhaps each of us who dine on Szechuan had a kindly mentor who first told us not to eat the dark red things.

I'm so glad Stu warned me, because later I dined with someone who routinely ate the dark red things. I tried one cautiously rather than carelessly and put the rest aside forever more. The influence of the dark red peppers is good; their direct action, not so much.
