So unless the federal government reinstates the Good Neighbor Next Door program in Cumberland County, and I happen to find a steal (in the right neighborhood) in the next couple of months, I can only focus on saving for a down payment on a nice home that I will not be able to buy for some 12-24 months from now. May I make an Auntie suggestion?
I know you want your own home.. but is there something deeper attached?
I'm thinking that maybe what you want is the autonomy to do what you want, when you want, without anyone looking over your shoulder. Might renting a home do the trick? at least for now.

There is so much more of the world to see and things to do that you might not want to tie yourself to a 30 year mortgage, especially in this economy.

I have a story to tell you some day about the world through my eyes at your age.... but this is not the forum for it.

I don't really want to rent if I don't have to, because I just see that as a waste of money. I rather invest in property, "flip" a starter home that needs work, and hopefully sell if for a nice little profit a few years from now. I looked into renting, but what I would pay for rent might as well be a mortgage payment. I'm just going to hang tight and see what happens. =)

My neighbor's house (The small one RIGHT NEXT to Dr. Shim's office.

It's small, but it's $56,000 right now. And it would be great starter home. The neighborhood is cleaning up alot more, AND you'd be 2 houses down from the safest home in the city. Not to mention, off-street parking, a small starter-yard, and access to everything.

I will look it up, but I'm not too sure about Foundry...I guess it would depend on the part of that street? With Millville Gardens going soon, I'm sure it will improve, but I'm a bit nervous about living in that part of the area by myself. But then, I would have Petey right next door. ;-)
