Merlin 4x09 Rant

So. I thought this was a pretty good episode. Unfortunately that was overshadowed by the fact that it made me angry on many, many levels.

I don't want to punch Arthur, I just want to shake the writers, but yes to pretty much all of the above. I guess that by medieval standards, Arthur was being mild (and they took care to insist that Gwen would have been put to death under Arthur's father), but they way they've handled most of the character interactions is too modern for this not to be pretty uncomfortable, anyway.

Also, yeah, they really only remember Gwen and Elyan are siblings when it suits them, and it's jarring. I actually think Elyan threw her a frowny look when she was revealed as a supposed adulteress, which, wtf. Wouldn't a brother's first thought be "OMG, I hope they're not going to put her to death", even if he was angry with her?

I normally get angry with the writers, but this time, I just. Gah. >_< Also, why did Merlin not tell Arthur that Lancelot was a shade? It may not have changed anything but it was worth a try!

Next week's episode is Elyan-centric. I wonder if this will be addressed then at all?

I wanted to punch Arthur too. The whole thing was just ridiculous. The magic was all too convenient and Arthur banishing Gwen over it was unbelievable. Meanwhile, Merlin just stood by and let it happen, as usual.

I knowww, I'm pissed off with Merlin too! Why did he not go help Gwen at the end? What a dick. D:

6) Welll, like I said, it was plausible without the enchantment. Gwen had previously been interested in Lancelot and I think Arthur was aware of that. But had Merlin told Arthur Lancelot was a shade it might have raised some questions.

Where the fuck was Elyan. Seriously. He's Gwen's brother. Did he not even help her pack?

THIS. I was so wanted a scene where Elyan tried to stand up for Gwen, or at least said goodbye to her or SOMETHING.

And then YES, how did EVERYONE find out about the kiss? It didn't have to turn into such a big deal, only three people actually saw it!

uggg, I feel like this episode had so much potential but just wasn't handled well at all by the writers. :(

It was written and executed well for the most part (I got all teary at the end and I'm not an A/G shipper) but so many things wrong with it. I think they have succeeded in angering all the shippers at once. Only people who might be happy now are the Lancelot/Freya shippers. xD

If I were Arthur I think I'd want to talk to Gwen and find out what happened before telling my entire court I'd been cuckolded. :/
