I've discovered that I've unjustly judged a fair amount of sports fans over the years. It's weird to understand the intensity with which so many people approach sporting events. Suddenly that guy seems justified in ignoring his dining companion because he's intent on knowing Jerry Stackhouse's condition after being elbowed by Shaq. Without warning ( Read more... )

Says he who watches NASCAR and knows more about the racers than I do about most basketball or football players. ;)

i'm still really of the opinion that TV, let alone a sporting event, should NEVER dictate how you are spending time with others, particularily ones that you love. consider that while you might be angsting over "Stackhouse" and "Shaq's" predicament, you could be ruining a relationship that you actually experience in person...i'm just saying here, not that i think you need to worry about that, mostly because drew is a bigger mavs freak than you. but i find that many many fights people have come out of feeling ignored, and that's bad enough without being ignored because you're too busy freaking out about the status of people you don't even know.

Meh. The thing, you see, is that it's about three hours out of one single day, rather than the intimate hours upon days upon weeks and months you spend with ones you love. Clearly, while more justified now that I'm crazy intense about one particular sport, that guy didn't time manage well enough. =)
