Mmm...bread

May 09, 2021 16:06

The only exciting thing that has happened since my last post is that we have bought a bread maker. Our kitchen is really not big enough for many gadgets and up until last year we hadn't bought any new ones for about 10 years. Since Lockdown 1 we have purchased a soup maker (brilliant and worth every penny), an air fryer (less useful according to me ( Read more... )

Oh - bread maker! We used to have one, but I got fed up with the paddle thing causing holes in the bottom of the bread, so in the end we used it just to make dough and then we decided it was easier just to buy a stand mixer and make dough in that. I hope you enjoy using it though - I do remember pizza dough comes out really well..... I gave it to Youngest Cee and he likes it so it's not wasted.

I'm with you about air fryers. Mr Cee really likes them and we bought it when the boys were both home as they both loved chips and it was a healthier option. I have to say I'm not bothered and it's so BIG to store which irritates me. I'd rather have fried potatoes as we hardly ever make chips these days.

I like Gardeners World magazine, but I do get irritated by how many adverts there are in it :(

I was just about to ask if they had invented a bread-maker that didn't leave a hole yet - I think you have answered it.

We were given one about 20 years ago and in the end the paddle annoyed me so much I stopped using it :(

I haven't had Gardeners World all that long so the adverts haven't had time to irritate me.

The air fryer is huge but I've managed to persuade J that it is the gadget that cannot live permanently on the work surface. He wanted to move the food processor, which I use and he doesn't, but I was firmly against that. I prefer fried potatoes too but J was pining for chips so I agreed to the air fryer in the end. He tells me they are healthier but as I don't think there is any such thing as a healthy chip I'm unconvinced.

We knew about the hole in the bottom of the bread but decided it was better than the bread we were getting turning into breadcrumbs in front of our eyes. The bread so far has been delicious and I'm looking forward to the pizza dough!

We can get nice bread locally - but I do make it sometimes and the shiny new stand mixer has made it very much easier. Makes good tea cakes too :)

I used to get the BBC Good Food magazine delivered, it was a gift from D-d for 3 or 4 years, but then she forgot to renew it and I decided to just buy it when shopping. But I do have the Peoples' Friend delivered weekly by post - the original subscription was Mum's, then we just changed the address to mine and, as I enjoy the amount of reading, and the recipes and knitting patterns, I continued it. I know this means I am officially old :)

My mother-in-law used to get the Peoples' Friend for the knitting patterns and I used to read it when we went to stay with her :)

The bread we were getting was nice but incredibly crumbly and we were ending up with more crumbs than bread. John makes bread by hand quite a lot but didn't want to do it all the time so the bread machine seemed the best answer.

"Probably the end result of this will be a diet, but it is fun so far."

LOL!!! You crack me up with your words of great wisdom. ♥

I stood on the scales this morning. Not good news even before I've stuffed myself with home-made bread. I should listen to my own words of great wisdom :)
