So that was June

Jun 30, 2021 15:57

I have to say that June has rather passed me by so I'm a bit surprised that we are now at the end of it. The weather has veered between lovely and atrocious, from hot to the heating coming on last week and we've had several bursts of completely torrential rain. Luckily for us it's been nothing like the Pacific North West, which sounds horrendous, ( Read more... )

We've had a blistering heat and humidity, torrential rain and had to put the electric blanket back on the bed June. It's been a bit ridiculous.

Our weather hasn't been quite so extreme but we've had a more moderate version of that. I don't expect to be wearing socks and slippers at the end of June!

The heat here has been awful. We are currently at 100F (39C). It's supposed to rain tomorrow and bring down the heat, thankfully.
My dad tried to teach me to drive but he was an awful instructor so my husband actually did. I learned on a manual, then as soon as I could, I got an automatic.

I learnt on a manual too and our car was manual. My instructor was really patient and unflappable, which helped.

We've had a bit of all kinds of weather this month but luckily not quite so extreme as you.

June has definitely been a bit of a non-event - three out of four entries in a row in my FList, including yours, had the same heading! Everyone is beginning to feel like my icon.

LOL. Yes, that is the perfect icon for June. I just feel as if it went by and I didn't notice.

The weather really has been all over the place hasn’t it! It doesn’t look like next week is much better :(

Homecoming is such a strange thing - I don’t think it’s made it’s way over here even though the concept of a prom seems to have done so in schools round here.

I didn't even know what "Homecoming" was! I'm rather glad I missed out on proms too.

I'm eyeing the weather forecast for next Friday like a hawk as I am meeting up with friends and due to immuno-compromise problems for two of them we really need to be outside.

I've been enjoying listening to all the DL Sayers as I've been walking or running. I listened to Five Red Herrings a couple of weeks ago and remembered why I haven't read it much - I was getting irritated by it! Currently on Clouds of Witness and thoroughly enjoying it. Listening rather than reading is a different approach to it and actually makes me want to read it once I've done listening. It convinces me that nothing beats hoovering up the words on the page.

So glad I'm not in the Pacific Northwest - I don't do at all well in the heat - and that is extreme.

I don't do well in the heat either. The situation in the Pacific Northwest sound a complete nightmare. When the temperature goes over 25 degrees I turn into a jelly and my husband only manages about 20.

I love audiobooks but I do agree that nothing beats reading. I find I notice different things when listening or reading but I'm very twitchy about the reader having the right voice for the book. I've listened to some of the Ian Carmichael dramatisations of DLS and though I enjoy them his voice isn't right for me.

Five Red Herrings is so odd. I got completely lost with the alibis and couldn't make sense of them at all and then the train timetables drove me mad. Clouds of Witness was the first Wimsey that I read when I was about 13 and it's still a favourite of mine.
