Catching up

Oct 17, 2021 16:09

I seem to have slipped behind a bit. We haven't done much this week apart from go on some longish walks and make some progress with our garden refurbishment. We have had good news that our friend's cancer is not as bad as everyone first feared and he may not even need chemo, unless he chooses to have it as a precaution. That was very cheering ( Read more... )

That's great news about your friend's cancer. What a relief.

It was a great relief. Apparently the consultant said that if he had to have cancer he had it in the best possible place.

Excellent news about your friend!

Our TiVo is full of stuff we recorded and now can't really remember why we did - or whether it's worth catching up with a whole series of something on there! We keep going to delete things and then changing our minds and STILL not watching it LOL!

We are *exactly* the same with our TiVo. I think there are some things on ours that are on their second repeat before we've watched them the first time!

Thanks. It was a big relief to hear that the prognosis for him is so good.

Glad to hear about the cancer prognosis.
I got my hair dyed blue and purple a while back but am letting the dye fade for now.

Thanks. We are very relieved the prognosis is so much better than we feared.

I keep wondering if I should stop having my hair dyed but I still don't like the black streaks so I shall have to be completely grey before I stop.

Josh was gloriously clueless about the implications as each step unfolded, wasn't he? The Carey connection was particularly funny, we felt.

Of course, in this country it may be easier to find folks who are not descended from Edward I than those who are, but he has more aristocratic connections than most. Pity they didn't even find time for Sabine Baring-Gould, though.

I was laughing my head off at the Carey connection. I really wondered if he was as clueless as he appeared but it did seem genuine.

I wondered why they'd left out Sabine Baring-Gould and I couldn't help feeling that Penelope Devereux would have been deeply offended at being ignored. They really could have given Josh a whole series on his own.

A garden refurbishment sounds very interesting... I hope there might be pictures!

Yes - I thought there were a lot of untouched stories in Josh Widdecombe's family tree - he could have done with 3 or 4 hours rather than just 1! I thought it was a shame they missed out Sabine Baring-Gould, too. And I recognised Catherine Knollys straight away having read a biography of her some years ago and I was positively jumping up and down waiting for the historian to say 'And of course she was probable Henry 8th's daughter...'

The garden refurbishment should be interesting but unless the firm has a cancellation it won't be until the week before Christmas, which will be a bit odd! It's mostly structural but we are going to lose our old pear tree, which I feel a bit sad and guilty about, though it is better to have it taken down before it falls down!

I think Catherine Knollys is more "possibly" Henry VIII's daughter than "probably" but she's interesting anyway. Mary Boleyn really got about as she may have slept with Francis I of France as well as Henry VIII. Nabbing both the Kings of England and France is quite an achievement :)

I wondered if they missed out Sabine Baring-Gould because Josh already knew about him and his "wow" wouldn't have been convincing enough. It was a shame though.
