I woke up this morning to the sound of drums. Not even kidding. There is a marriage taking place tomorrow at a local home and the celebration started yesterday, though I imagine tonight’s festivities were somewhat subdued by the huge storm that rolled in at 5:30. Friday morning here in Bamako, and I'm hanging out in ASDAP's Cyber Café because no one else is in the office. There are two guys here who have been teaching me Bambara recently and I've actually started studying it at night too (Lynn and Les had some books around the house.) I’m currently working on my internship report for ASDAP, because I am nearing the end of my time here. However, I need a break from writing in French, so I guess I’ll go ahead and do a short update. As we get further into the rainy season here I am noticing a dramatic increase in mosquitoes, mosquito bites, and mud. And not that any of them particularly bother me (like sweat, I’ve just gotten used to them) but there are certainly days when they get to be too much ( Read more... ) -
A Malian 4th of July
It’s my first night alone here in Bamako after quite a peaceful day. I literally spent the entire day in my pajamas - I guess I just felt like a lazy day. It’s been a rather cold weekend here.
