I'm actually kind of glad at least one other person thinks that Katsura might be trolling as well, because I definitely feel that way sometimes too! I still think the best example is the one in episode 64 where the end of the letter reveals he wanted the Shinsengumi to die anyway.
And yes, I'd imagine the Joi are non-profit since Katsura has been shown to part-time, meaning funds would be pretty inconsistent.
At first I thought he was genuinely like that, but the more I watch him the more I suspect that most of the time he is skilfully trolling everyone XD That was a god example indeed! And what about the prison episode where he revealed his attitude in the end? XD
It definitely looks like that. In fact, I suspect it's probably sub-zero profit, if Katsura actually gives people money to learn how to become a Joi patriot XD
He has the potential to be an A-grade troll, for sure! And if you think of it, Gintoki and Katsura used roughly the same trolling method in this episode too.
...yeah, Katsura may be smart, adorable and strong but I don't think he's very good at finance matters except for saving. :'D
When you think about it, Gin-san is also a troll, and who knows, Sakamoto might actually behave like that on purpose... So basically in Gintama everyone is a troll XD
The samurai don't concern themselves with such trivial matters like money, spiritual values are what matter XD
