goddamn that exchange is hilariously awesome. it does everything imaginable to solidify my entirely unsubstantiated, ridiculous image of what i'm trying to avoid by being a cynical, antisocial dvorak who refuses to leave the middle of the desert.

People who look down on TV baffle me. Any other form of art is acceptable to them, except this one, and it's just another form a media.

exactly! and what is most interesting about television is its accessibility and therefore its power. it is such a volatile and controversial medium- far more so than someone setting himself on fire in an art studio in midtown manhattan or whatever.

Totally! Perhaps the fact that so many people trash on TV is what makes it so interesting. I mean, for us it's all the shows and cool things that are interesting, but the arties should lighten up.

well to be fair, art in any form is action-reaction. i can't say that everything on tv is stimulating, interesting or worth my time but it does bother me when artists are dismissive of art or atleast dismissive of something that could be a very effective informer of their own cultural resonation. you cannot comment on something until you fully understand it.
there is a lot of shitty stuff on tv. honestly, much of what i watch and enjoy is pure rot! but, a decision to react against something that one is not fully in scope of is pretty ignorant. soooooo many people like these programs. so many depend on this medium for their reference and information. it is sooooo powerful. i just can't understand the mindframe of denying its importance.
