Is this growing up?

So apparently being married means I'm grown up now, and my parents no longer have obligations to store stuff for me. I don't really agree - but I wasn't really given any choice in the matter. So I've got whole plastic tubs full of stuff I thought was important enough to keep over the years.

Some of it is really easy to discard: what on Earth ( Read more... )

I think that pumpkin might like to learn about your adventures some day! Are there some that are particularly significant to you? You could make something like a time capsule to be re-opened in ten years.

there are some that definitely went into the keep pile immediately. It's the rest really. My science fair medallion?

Actually that's kinda shiny. Maybe I'll wear it as a necklace ;)

I would say keep the honour roll and subject awards ones, at least. But the rest...does it really matter to you now?

I'd lean towards tossing them, but I've gone a full 180 in the last year or so - I used to keep absolutely everything, now I'm whatever the opposite of a packrat is.

I felt horribly guilty after watching Toy Story 3 - my most recent trip to Toowoomba resulted in me throwing out every single one of my childhood toys, except the one or two that Mum insisted I keep for sentimental value.

ah see, I lucked out with that one. All my toys that I kept (I did have a big throwaway when we moved to Australia) can now be passed on to someone else :)

Keep the sentimental trappings of an overachiever's teenage-dom?

Considering I was an under-achiever, I say dump your awards, so you can get down to my level ;-)

Okay, I'll be nice - keep the cows, dump the rest!

Personally I say keep.

If nothing else it's interesting stuff about you as a younger you - and you can always ditch them later if you decide they're not worth it.

Assuming you have space to keep them of course. If it's not something you'll be able to put up somewhere, or if it's something you don't want to display, chances are you won't think of it until you dig out a box in your NEXT move... etc.
