I, myself, am in the international trade professional, with a pretty good understanding of import/export contracts (e.g. agriculture, precious metals, energy, mining, timber, military hardware, etc). Yet at the same time, I have to be very cautious (and 100% ethical) about using "insider" information from my job as a vehicle toward personal gain. I don't think I could (or would) do anything to jeopardize the wonderful career opportunity that I've been given. It's most certainly a very thin (but solid) line to tow!
My wife works for a financial planner but I don't think you'd meet his income requirement. I can tell you this, however, he is still looking for investments and pulling out his hair.
Invest for the long term. It still could get worse.

Oddly enough, that is exactly what my advisor told me this morning, adding that (and I quote) "absolutely nothing in this market, short of an FDIC-insured CD, is fully 'safe.'"
Thank you for reinforcing my sense of (admittedly optimistic) caution. I appreciate your wisdom, kind sir!
the market is a tricky thing. its sort of like weather prediction. but as long as you stay diversified and invest for the long term, chances are you'll be successful. or at least thats what my invesment advisor tells me :)
just considering yourself lucky. you werent here a year ago. i had to stop looking at my statements they were so depressing!
> "And why do you want to spend the rest of your life here?"
As you probably know, America (and Americans) are pretty popular in Australia. I grew up hearing wonderful stories about this country, and having visited several times before on business, found it to be a very friendly place teeming with opportunities. Don't get me wrong, I love my country, and it will always be "home," but i think my life can and will be more rewarding here.

And why do you want to spend the rest of your life here? I like it pretty well, but I'm curious.
