Dragon-Con costume progress - Leoben (Battlestar)

One costume down - 1 or two more to go! I just finished up David's Leoben costume (Cylon number two - the dude who tried to strangle Adama in the mini-series and held Starbuck captive on New Caprica). Gosh, this was nearly 2 weeks of solid work. One or two days off here and there... but I dove into it on either Monday or Tuesday nearly two weeks ( Read more... )

Thanks! Now you know what I've been spending so much time on. But now it's into the Moulin Rouge night costume I told you about... that kwik sew pattern is funky but I think I'm figuring out the altering OK. I have hope :)

That looks great, my dear. And your weathering is fantastic. Just so you know. ;)

Thanks - I bet if I really played for an extra day I could have nailed the weathering a bit better, but I just lost my patience because I have other costumes I'm behind schedule on! So - accuracy was sacrificed in the final stage which is kind of sad when I spent so much time tracking down all the accurate buckles, netting, neoprene - etc.

Overall - as long as he isn't standing next to someone who owns the real costume, it's not too bad I guess :)

It's utterly fantastic - truly. I know you see the "mistakes" being as close to it as you are, but honestly this looks awesome, shirt and all.

Yeah, I'm trying to let the mistakes go. I just didn't want to spend more than a day with weathering the vest & experimenting with paint colors and techniques. It's a pretty obscure costume so it's not like it has to be as perfect as something like the paint job on a Boba Fett costume for example. In fact, we'll be lucky if one or two people even know who he's dressed as! This will be David's first time wearing an obscure costume.

wow. Awesome awesome job. The shirt you have already is so similar the actor wouldn't remember it's different. I think it's perfect!

Thanks - I just keep reminding myself that this is such an obscure costume not many people will know it is the wrong shirt (or that I got the weathering wrong, or that the shade of red is slightly off...). Maybe some of the fans of the character will know it's not the right shirt. We'll just be lucky if anyone recognizes who David is dressed as!
