my housemates are so loud. or rather, the housemate's girlfriend and her 2 year old daughter. thankfully, we don't share any real space, and never see each other, but i hear plenty. mainly yelling. the girlfriend is LOUD.

went and saw the passion of christ, or as i like to call it, The Christ Movie. i had some real reservations about seeing it ( Read more... )

what i said was i had some reservations about seeing the film. i chose to see it because i wanted to have an educated opinion, not just summarily refuse to view it because of my opinion that it was a "christ movie." i went to satisfy my curiosity, out of hope to be entertained, and to have an informed take on all the controversy surrounding the film ( ... )

gibson also goes to great lengths to make pilate a sympathetic character, going outside of biblical "dialog" to show pilate wrestling with his conscience, going to his wife for advice, struggling with this decision. this is how gibson chose to interpret the character of pilate, as opposed to the person he was, historically. ( this site offers some interesting insight into pilate's character and rule, which you may find to be of interest. of course, plenty is available with a simple google search.)
gibson deliberately chose to make pilate a sympathetic character, again, a very catholic choice, as he has been sainted by the abyssinian church.
people will walk away from this film with the same mistaken assumption as you've made--that "the jews" condemned and sentenced jesus to death.

and the bible is certainly NOT history. it is a theological text, with very specific motivations. the earliest of the gospels wasn't written down until perhaps 30-40 years after jesus lived and died. (some good information and sources on the historical ... )

Holy crap. I think this is the most stunningly rational dissection of this movie I've seen.

i would not recommend it, except for the very devout, who will see it to reinforce existent beliefs.
