Today I went to the Barbie exhibition at The Design Museum in Kensington. It's a bit of a longer journey for me to get to as I have to get a train and then a tube, but fairly easy. As usual, both trains meshed together beautifully

So, I came directly to your page and see the Barbie post. I am thinking it's not showing on anybody's friends feed since you have no comments. Hmmm.... In any case, SO MANY BARBIES. And my daughters and I have so many of them. I had the original Barbie in the striped swimsuit...my older daughter Vicki has her now. I was 7 in 1959 and remember how excited I was to get her for Christmas. How I would love to see this exhibition.
You sound like you would love the exhibition - there were all the different faces from over the years (I didn’t post all of them!) and it was so interesting to see how the fashion changed over time. I’m going to go back with a friend as she’s keen to see it ;)
The Barbie expo looks interesting. I used to have loads of Barbies growing up and would make a school class out of them and take the register. Things got more interesting when Ken came along, LOL! In recent years I ended up with some again and keep meaning to complete an online story I began about them but from a more adult perspective.
Thanks for this. I have visited the Barbie exhibit in Montreal a couple of times, but it had different elements than some of the ones you spotted. There is a bigger focus on Bob Mackie costume designs and Barbie in various movie roles. I would love to see the one in the UK as well. I wasn’t a big fan of Barbie growing up either, but she fascinates me as a cultural icon.
It's interesting to hear that the exhibit near you had a different focus. I suppose because this one was about the anniversary of Barbie's 'invention,' they wanted to primarily show her history and changes over the years. There was a small section on TV shows and movies with Barbie, but they didn't photograph very well...

I much preferred playing with the hair. I always wanted one of those really large heads that you could style the hair - I never got one :(

Did the exhibition include anything about the racy German call-girl doll that was Barbie's predecessor? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild_Lilli_doll
