And...WOW. I think I repeated that word about 20 times after leaving the cinema.

Yeah, most people are unimpressed by the storyline but love the effects, but I always thought Titanic was the same way.

Mr. W our Son and I saw Avatar in 3-D Friday afternoon. It was GeekNerdfest 2009 in the theatre (hee) with all the fanboyz squeeing.

I liked the movie just fine (altho at one point I was dying to call out 'Jack!/Rose!'). It was beautiful visually and I thought the story engaging. Still, 2 hrs 45 minutes is a LONG movie and I was really sorry I had drunk a bottle of water!

I'm sure my boys will see it again. I will prolly pass till the Blu-Ray comes out so I can pause and pee!

Did you see it in 3D? Because all the reviews are talking about how it's "the future of 3D" yet none of them explain how it's different from any other 3D movie. How is it different? *wants to know*

Butting in here, but I think it's because it's not gimmicky like all other 3-D films are...like, things popping out in your face to get a OOH! factor like the 3D horror axes flying at you or 3D kiddie films with water or faces popping out have been like. It's not used as like a cheesy bonus to the film. I felt like the 3-D was just naturally THERE and it helped enhance the world, and it's just beautiful. I guess I just felt like it was taking itself more seriously and didn't overwhelm the film itself. Hope that helps?

Yay! I loved this film. I think my friend and I are going to go see it again. I think my eyeballs got overstimulated and couldn't even process the scale of it all. Yeah, the plot was pretty basic...but it's not like this movie needed a complex plot. I felt like it was more about explaining this species' culture and history. Maybe the sequel, if it comes to light, will be more plot-heavy as people seemed to want.

I know! I was pretty tired and a little headache-y afterwards myself.

It's easy to focus on the 'bad' humans in the film, but there were also humans that were just there to learn and appreciate. It's the avaricious and conquest-minded folks that get all the attention. Unfortunately, they're most likely to seek positions of power as well so...

But anyone with an ounce of geek blood in their veins must be blown away by Avatar. I know I was. :)
