Because all the grandmas who wore the clothes before they were "vintage" smoked a lot of pot for their cataracts.

Does patchouli have other uses? I thought that was it's main purpose for existence - be stinkier than the stink it stinks up.

It's either that or having vintage clothes that smell like old lady rose perfume and/or formaldehyde.

I think patchouli is just to cover stank. Yeah, I am pretty sure that is it's only use. I don't know. All I do know is I walked past a vintage store the other day that had its front door open and the smell nearly killed me. And it wasn't rose perfume, either.
