LJ Idol Topic 2: The Missing Stair

Mar 20, 2014 21:49

When I was a child, I devoured books like they were food. And when I ran out of my own books to read, I'd run through my mother's library. Though now I can recall that she had mostly mysteries and a few romance novels, she had a few of the old hardbound Readers' Digest condensed books. One of them contained a story that I have yet to read in full, ( Read more... )

This is a great post. I haven't heard about this book before, but I know what it is like to read a book when you are younger and to have it stick with you as you grow. I like what you say here because it kind of demonstrates that we're all different in our own ways. :) Thanks for sharing... and talk about a quick response! I need to think more about the topic before I can write my entry. :)

Honestly, I was sitting at the computer talking to a friend about old books when it got posted, so I just got hit with inspiration. Thanks so much!

I really loved the way this unfolded and tied into the theme... nicely done! (and very easy feeling with which to relate)...

I'm honestly amazed at how many people have related to this. It definitely helps with the loneliness feeling. Thank you!

I really enjoyed the phrase "Kechara-sized stair".

Great take on the topic.

:D I debated between 'sized' and 'shaped' and ultimately just went with my first instinct. Thank you!

I love that book! And I can relate to how you say you're not "special needs" but that you've never really felt like you fit in. I've often wondered (like, both as a kid and now as an adult) if I was developmentally delayed but my parents never told me. My fiancee and her therapist both think I'm on the spectrum and my parents probably didn't know.
Phew! Long story short, this was an amazing entry. :)

Oh my god, someone who actually knows the story! I really should find the original book and read it at some point. I was always fascinated by Karen most of all.

There was some loose discussion when I was a child about me having ADD, but I don't think a diagnosis ever came down. I do know that I work and think best when I have a LOT to do. My boss is always floored by how much I can get done when I have three things that MUST be done today and oh, by the way, answer the phone at the same time because three people called out during this shift.

I like to think there's a stair out there to fit any person. Reminds me of a song lyric:

What if we had one second to be
Just like the other
What would we see?
What if you knew exactly what you are to me?
Would you be terribly surprised
To see who I am in my actual size?
A second is short, but more than enough
You would feel loved

Great piece.
