I'm very grateful to have interesting friends that never bore me.
The twist side to it is how jealous I am of people who have their neighbours for friends...

So Mikey and Sara are gonna be on the German cruise ships for a year. Different ships, mind. Spent a day with Mikey just now. Just feels like, every time I meet my friends, there's sort of a ( Read more... )

I'm following a friend (via her blog) on an around-the-world solo one-year trip. And she's married and everything. It's wild. Fun, though. I'm back from vacation. If you want that DVD you need to PM me your address.

Also: TWO Finns reading my journal! Fun. She wrote a grocery list and google translated it, sort of. Better than I'd expected.

And we talked about accents. She said Pam's accent really is THAT BAD.

I'm on the yellow pages, I'm as public as they come. :)

Pam speaks badly. She sucks so much I'm happy she's subtitled, or I wouldn't be able to understand a word. But we buy it, cos she's not supposed to be fluent. Unlike the actor who played viking dad. Urrgh. Surely they could find one single Swedish-speaking middle aged male actor in the world?

Ordered. I'll let you know.

Also, I can't believe they can't find someone who speaks Swedish for (one-shot) dad? Please. What the hell. I do think it's a tonal thing ... I have not much facility for language but I've good tonal mimicry. Except for things like Thai. Thai is impossible.

If Godric were comparing an imcomprehensible Texas twang to an incomprehensible Scandi accent, would he pick on some region of Denmark? Norrland Swedish? A regional Norwegian accent?

Thank yooooou!

A Swedish twang, I'd pick the weirdo local one from Värmland, I think. Even the other people from Värmland don't understand them and call the speakers Indjuns, nick named because they might as well speak some Indian language. Yes, yes, Politically Correct, but they've called them Indians since before Native American ever came up, so. :P

Dunno how much a translator will help you with that, can't find anything in English...
