Well, if there was going to be a party, Chloe wanted to know how to dance for it. Never mind part of her wanted to mentally do research for a film. She can see it now: a medieval Keep, a night of horrors--this could prove to be fun!
And there's no way Chloe would let Derek get out of attending this. She wanted to be able to dance with him. Truth be told, she was more than eager to commiserate with him on the dance floor. The teasing spark in her eyes would be ceaseless.
So Chloe arrives to the bower, Derek with her, and her expression lights up when she sees some familiar faces.
Chloe was ducking her head, trying to keep her mortification hidden. Finally a light laugh escaped and she bobbed her head in a yes, gaining her own balance on her own two feet once again after Xanth's help in catching her.
"Th-thanks for not letting me fall."
Her voice was extra quiet when she said it, heart beating in quick percussion as she tried to ignore the thought of all the eyes in the room turning on her had she fallen.
"M-maybe it's a little h-harder than I thought."
She finally lifted embarrassed eyes to Xanth's. At least she was able to smile about it, despite the bright stain of her cheeks. She hoped it went away soon.
"Y--Yeah. I-It's, um-- f-for you it's l-left, f-forward, right, b-- back." For Xanth, the directions were opposite, but there was no need to confuse Chloe any more than he had to.

"Chloe!" Kairi spots her from across the room as there's a lull in the music, and waves energetically before bounding over.
"Come and dance with me! It's the trio one. You should bring-," And she casts a look around for Derek before realizing that she's never actually met him, "Derek?"
Smiling and laughing slightly at Kairi's enthusiasm, Chloe glances behind her, looking for what she expects is a scowling Derek trying not to get mixed up in the throng of people dancing. She does feel a little bad for dragging him here, but she was certain she'd make up for it one way or another before the day was through.
"Kairi! I'm glad you're here. Sure, we'd love to, right Derek?"
Turning her big blue's to Derek, Chloe motions for Kairi to follow her, whispering, "Don't be intimidated. He's just a little shy, is all."
There was teasing in her voice, and when she looked up at Derek there was something like playful challenge in her eyes. She had no doubt he heard her, but she wanted him to get along with her new friend. Hopefully he'd be relieved she wasn't Tori, at the very least.
There's a cheerful girl bounding over. One who is not Liz, and therefore is getting a scowl, from where Derek's definitely not hiding behind Chloe. But it fades slightly when Chloe greets her.
Oh. Kairi. Derek remembers speaking to her on the journals, one of the people Chloe'd made him ask after.
And no. No, he wouldn't love to. But he will anyway, because he can't resist it when Chloe asks him like that. He doesn't say anything, but his scowl melts away, and though he tries to look displeased, the effect's kind of ruined by the softness in his eyes when he looks at Chloe.
"...I'm not shy." Yeah, Derek, protesting it doesn't make it look any less true.

He's scowling at her.
Far from being perturbed, Kairi throws a grin back at Chloe. Maybe he's shy. Maybe he just likes to look tough. Kairi doesn't mind. Chloe thinks he's a good person and Kairi stopped being intimidated by most people around the same time she started being friends with Riku.
"Hello," she follows after Chloe, "Thanks for helping me... That time."
Chloe gives him a look, hoping he'll behave. The seriousness of said look is lost a little when she smiles, however. She's just glad Derek agreed to come here.
"Helping?"
Looking from Kairi to Derek, Chloe is the picture of incomprehension. She shakes her head, though. Another time. Right now, they were here to dance.
"Derek?"
At Kairi's question, Chloe was once again sending that amused look Derek's way. She was going to enjoy this, and possibly tease him later on. Not about the dancing, though. She wanted him to feel comfortable enough to dance with her. She'll just pester him a little about what his wolf instincts thought about all this.
He wasn't expecting to be thanked, especially not when he hadn't actually been successful. Surprise flickers briefly across his expression, then he offers Kairi an almost smile.
"Uh, yeah. No problem."
Derek shrugs at Chloe's first question, then raises an eyebrow at the amused look Chloe shoots his way. Thanks, Chloe.
"Yeah, sure. I'll lead."
That means he'll have to concentrate more on this stupid dance thing, and he can just focus on that and let them make conversation, or whatever.

"See? This won't be so bad."
Then she makes her way fully into the room.

"I'd like to try again. If you'll still teach me?"

"I do want to. This time I'll be more careful so I don't trip."

Xanth grasped Chloe's hand in his own, set his hand on her waist. When she gave the signal that she was ready, he'd start the dance.

"It's just going in circles, right? Once I get used to the steps it shouldn't be too bad."

"Sounds easy. Now I just need to know which foot to move. Don't worry, I'll get the hand of it. I'll follow your lead."
With that, Chloe relaxed into the waltz's embrace, closing her eyes so she could feel, and do.

He had tried. That's what counts.
