He wasn't going to lie, he'd been really looking forward to this party. It was the first Halloween in a really long time that he'd spent away from the Institute, but Bobby was doing his best not to think about that. That mostly meant being really psyched out for the party, which really wasn't all that hard. He loved his costume, and there were a lot of people here that he was looking forward to talking to and dancing with.
Bobby was watching other people dance, for the moment, though he'd already claimed some of the dances he'd asked for and was definitely planning on claiming more of the rest. But right then, he was sipping at a glass of wine and munching on a little toffee cup.
Xanth, too, had a snack and a drink in his hand - though he'd foregone wine in favor of water and toffee in favor of a candy apple. (It wasn't that he felt he was too young for liquor, it's that wine tasted nasty.)
When he spotted Bobby, he wasn't entirely sure that it was Bobby, but the grin gave him away. Xanth, clad in a costume of his own and long hair let down today, finally approached.
Grinning now, Xanth ducked his head. "Th-- thanks. I-I, uh, you-- y-you gotta-- l-love the pants, r-right?"
Gotta love the hammer pants. Xanth picked this outfit for the color combination and the gloves, but it wasn't until he put it on that he realized how absurd the pants were.
"Hey, man, if anyone can pull those off, it's totally you." His tone was joking, but he wasn't really knocking the pants. He still thought Xanth looked cool.
Xanth bit his lip, glanced to the ground. "I-It's, uh, a-- a long-- l-long story. A-Another... a-another time, m-maybe." And he meant that. He trusted Bobby enough to tell him, but tonight was fun, and there was no reason to drag down Bobby's mood.
His smile returning, Xanth looked back to Bobby. "B-But I, I-I haven't danced, n-not really. Have-- h-have you?"
Bobby nodded, making no move to push for it. He understood that. Both from back home, where most students tended not exactly have some of the best experiences ever and didn't always want to talk about it at certain times, and here, where pretty much everyone had that. "Yeah, I got you."
And then Bobby's grin was back as well. "I have a bit, yeah. It's actually a lot of fun! You want to give it a try?"
Xanth found himself just a little surprised by the offer, and he laughed. Dancing wasn't inherently romantic - after all, Xanth danced entirely platonically with Chloe!
"S--Sure, o-- okay." Grinning lopsidedly, he glanced out at the crowd, then back to Bobby. "Wh-- Wh-what-- what dance?"
He didn’t have to worry about munching that toffee cup alone for long, because Raven was actively seeking him out. She’d pushed back the crazy headpiece from her costume she was wearing so that her blond hair fell free, and was carrying a drink in her hand as she spied him from across the room.
Shoving her way through people, she came up next to him, grinning at just the sight of him.
Wow. Hi there, Raven. She was looking incredibly gorgeous right then - though he couldn't help but miss the blue a little. But neither of those were things he should probably say to her (for the second, at least not in public, where people could overhear), so he settled for grinning back at her.
"Hi, Rae!" he greeted cheerfully. "Thanks! You look amazing. I love your dress."
Once she's facing him directly, he gets the biggest of hugs, arms thrown around him and a big kiss on the cheek.
"Thanks! I'm so glad to see you here." She stepped back and swished her skirts. "Pretty groovy, right?" She loved the dress, the way it was made and the weird, alien feel of it. So. Cool.
His smile brightened even more at the hug, and he returned it happily. He wasn't expecting the kiss, but he was completely not complaining. Except maybe a tiny stray thought of disappointment that it'd been on the cheek, but he'd just shove that away.
"Me, too. The party's instantly more fun with you around." He grinned, watching the swishy. "Have you tried it out dancing yet?"
Well, a girl can only push her luck so far, you know.
"That's what happens when your one girl army shows up." She links arms with him, dropping the dress. "Not yet. Wanna be the first to take me for a spin?"
fff, sorry for the late, LJ decided I didn't need this notifmister_10_belowNovember 13 2011, 07:27:13 UTC
True. It was probably for the best, especially since she wasn't not blue right then, and Bobby'd much rather have their first kiss be with the real her.
"You're just that epic," he agreed, tugging her in a bit closer when she linked her arm through his. "Of course! I'm honored I get to be the first."

"Thanks! He's a character in a movie, actually, who can control ice. So I'm sort of cheating, but don't tell anyone." Bobby was a rebel, man.
"I like your costume, too! You look wicked cool."

Ah, well. Such is life.

"How're you liking the part so far?"

"It's-- fun." His grin wavered, bordering on the uneasy. "B--Better than, uh, l-- last Halloween, th-that's for-- sure..."

But then he paused, considering that last part. "Do I want to know what happened last Halloween?"
