Keeper has some life news...

Apr 10, 2007 20:50

So, I don't remember if I've mentioned this to any of you before, but I've been thinking for a while now about taking some time off school and trying to figure out what I want to do with the future as it concerns my life. I've always enjoyed school and been good academically, but I've never really loved it and it's never really pointed me in a ( Read more... )

Keeper, this sounds like a great idea. I'm a big advocate of taking a break from school or between schools (high school/college; college/grad school)to test out the "real world". I think you can learn so much, as you say, about what you like and don't like, about what you're good at and what it takes to achieve your goals---and I also agree that it helps refine your educational goals and can make school, whether you go back full or part time, more meaningful.

I think you're brave, and I hope you're getting support from your family and your school for trying this out.

Also, be sure to mention your plan to Mrs. Krasinski and I'm sure she'll give you John's number in Hollywood! ;-)

Congrats and keep us posted on your plans as you make them!

I'm actually going to call her tomorrow I think. That's scaring me a little too, but they say to go to LA with as many contacts as possible, so I really should. She likes me though, so it should be ok...

If it wasn't entirely way too warm for me out there (I melt at about 80 or so, 85 max), I'd completely ask you if you wanted a roommate. Then we could be on our own (and possibly kind of confused) together!

I can relate to the time off thing, though. Been there... didn't get the T-shirt!

You have to come with me Flip! Cuz you know where a certain someone lives! Think of all the stalking fun we could have together!

Bring the family along. I like kids!

Keep, I am so excited for you. I think living in a new place, doing things outside of school will be a great experience. (It was for me.) Yeah, it's terrifying, but all the important leaps in life are. Also, L.A. = beach.

I felt similarly to you Keeper. I left school long after I should have and I now enjoy working.

Good luck!

Keeps, I think this is a great idea. I felt the same way in uni and I dropped out in second year. It took me until I was 22 to decide to go back and when I did I was motivated.

You are spending a huge amount of money on your education (and I figure you probably aren't mega rich) so it should be on something you want. Also, it's much easier to pick up and try something scarily new when you are young.

Plus, you might be far from your friends and family but you'll still have us, same as ever. Only change - you can join the west coasters (and me) when everyone else has gone to bed :-)
