Hornblower and I go hot and cold, sometimes I really enjoy those books and sometimes think I've lost my mind thinking I used to like them. etc etc etc.
But that does put me in mind of watching Sharpe this weekend.
Current read is: How Right you Are, Jeeves, by P.G. Wodehouse. Anything by him is golden, and doesn't really need to be taken in order. (The TV series with Steven Fry and Hugh Laurie is fabulous, too!)
One of the other authors I return to is Anthony Boucher for interesting mysteries, but he's very dated and mostly out of print at this point.
for a first-time Clive Barker read, i'd suggest one of his more whimsical works, The Thief of Always. although The Inhuman Condition, which is a collection of short stories, is also good.
Today I'm reading "Queen of New Beginnings" by Erica James. So far very good, two characters telling each other their stories, drawing you in to their world whilst they draw each other in at the same time. Definitely a curl up on a rainy day book :)
Couple of days ago I finished one of the Weather Warden books by Rachel Caine. Good trashy fun, I love them to bits. AND she's signing here in a couple of weeks and I'm so excited!
I also finished Undomesticated Goddess recently, which I thoroughly loved, by Sophie Kinsella. 20's Girl was also really lovely.
OH! And The First Law trilogy was brilliant! As long as you don't mind a bit of violence, that is. Wondefully engaging characters, though, that you can't help love to hate :)
In a couple of days I will be reading... yikes, not sure, too much on the To Read pile! *_*
If you are up for more recs then I *highly* recommend the two Orphan's Tales books by Catherynne M. Valente, "In the Night Garden" and "In the Cities of Coin and Spice". Wonderful, wonderful books.

I just finished up a Rhys Bowen Welsh cozy mystery and am now cleaning out my brain with Hornblower and the Hotspur.
You're welcome to Napoleon with me. LOL
