Meeting is getting tedious - glad tomorrow is the last day.
Buses are really crowded and further between. Transport system really is having some problems now - maybe tourist overload? Some subway stations are really confusing - no where as convenient as Paris.

 Back to work. Hot weather again - alternating cool to very hot - breeze and clouds permitting.
 Listened to Barger's talk. CN Yang made a remark that Barger's had not mentioned Cheng and Wu's work enough - that it was "courageous and unrelenting", now presumably vindicated by the NAL data. A ridiculous thing to say, coming from a Nobel laureate!! ( ( Read more... )

 Bacon and eggs this morning - eggs greasy - bacon is really ham. Butter is good. Hard to decide what I want to do today.
 Buses crowded - took subway to Picadilly filmed Denham St. ad board. Walked down to Mall - lots of tourists buses, bringing people to changing of guards at Buckingham palace (11:30 AM every day). Usual huge mob around the statue ( Read more... )

AM    Went up to Portobello market - took easy way on bus from Kensington High to Notting hill Gate then walked. Mad house! seemed like every tourist in London was there - american, french, italians - etc. Portobello road lined on both sides and in the middle with shops and stalls, everyone different but everyone offering pretty much the same thing ( Read more... )

 Elizabethan evening was excellent! - dark banquet room - rough wooden tables + chairs. Frank Turkot (BNL?) + wife as "lord" at head table. Finally bought raincoat - went to Burberry's asked for a light raincoat. Salesman showed me a raincoat, no mention of price - but I knew from Fieldings what it would be (40 pounds = $100!) I bought it anyway - but I'm paying a hell of a lot for status. / Umbrella already has a broken connection to one rib - damn! forgot safety pins so I can't fix ( Read more... )

 Still cold and wet - umbrella makes me feel more secure but I'm wearing all the clothes I can - still think I may need a light raincoat. - go tomorrow.

- Cold + Wet! / Never - never forget to bring rain gear + some warm clothes!!!
- Glad I brought at least on turtle neck had to buy umbrella, but worth it!
- But weather is awful - cold rain! can't believe I was sweltering last year at the same time.
