Correct, in a way. :)

Spider Robinson wrote a number of short stories and later novels based around a bar called "Callahan's." They're actually the basis for The Place> on Quartz, from back when The Place was actually posted in. :)

The short stories (which are superior to the novels, IMO) are collected in a book called "The Callahan Chronicles." Definitely worth at least checking out of the library.

pershing rifles?

The National Society of Pershing Rifles is, in essence, a military fraternity; it is a coeducational organization that is associated with ROTC units in colleges across America. It was founded in 1891 by then-Lieutenant John J. Pershing, future Gerneral of the Armies and leader of American forces in World War I. I pledged and joined Company X-8 at the University of Delaware while a student there.
