Today in an ecumenical spirit of community I attended the Foreign Teacher’s Potluck Supper organized by the Xtian missionaries. I agreed to bring various things, which I did. I sang the gospel hymns (I know the harmony and the words from childhood). I helped clean up. I tried to make small talk. At the point where one American

Sweetest, you have always been brave and strong, but I'll rest easier when you are out of there. Good for you for attempting a little bit of communication with the missionary set. Even if they seem to be suffering from a bit of "Stockholm Syndrome." (as well as having believed all those old stories about the "heathen.") How sad for them that they are too limited to realize how really well informed you are.
