AFTERNOON UPDATE - Good News! Talked to my cousin Chuck while he was at the hospital. He talked to the doctor and the social worker. They say she has pneumonia again. But she sounded stronger and pretty coherent when I talked w/ her. They were discussing potential rehab facilities to. A long term trip to Michigan is in my future again.

Keith called. Our vet says all that's wrong w/ Molly is the urinary tract infection with cystitis. Not another cancer. She want's to continue the antibiotics for 8 weeks to eliminate the e coli and cystitis.

On the mom front, my cousin says her mind is a 80% last night. Not as bad as I feared. Other info on her will come later today.

So now they're saying she did have a stroke! She's very confused and psychiatrist judged her non compus mentis. She is a little less confused than 2 days ago when she insisted she was leaving the hospital right away. But still not great ( Read more... )

So now their back to thinking she may have had a stroke. I FINALLY talked w/ a doctor this evening. She's having problems w/ one are, but it's also swollen so I don't get the stroke thing. OK, so my mom has 3 family members w/ medical power of attorney. Hasn't been a problem in the past for one of us to call and get information and pass it to the others. Why is it that on Henry Ford Hospitals website, you can't find the number for the hospital. The phone # at the bottom of the page states "We are currently closed.." but I KNOW there are people there and someone handling the phones for the Hospital proper. You can find doctors, services etc, just not the number to call to talk w/ the sick people

Today they decided to move mom to Henry Ford Hospital in Downtown Detroit. The hospital she's gone to before has changed hands and her insurance doesn't cover it. When you ask a delirious person where they want to go, the answer is bound to have mistakes in it. She has aspirative pneumonia and probably a bowel obstruction.... Molly has something going on in her bladder. It's conspicuously empty. We tried 2 days to get a urine sample. Then she started squatting and licking again today. Ran her in for a tech to try a draw. After palpating to find urine, she peed bloody urine on the table and a lump of tissue came out. EEK!!! Cytology and culture and $200....
