What are opinions like?

Yesterday I noticed a potential plot hole while watching Hellboy 2, so after the movie I went to the IMDB to see if anyone else had the same idea I had.  Sure enough, someone did, but that's not the reason for this post.  Personally, while I do like the first movie a little bit better, I do think Hellboy 2 is pretty damn good in it's own right, but ( Read more... )

I've found IMDB's board to be quite..

Well, they're like Youtube's boards.

Namely, they are worthless.

This is true. I think maybe some people just feel the need to greatly exaggerate to emphasize how strongly they feel. It's kind of like if you say "I've never been so humiliated" or "this is the worst day ever." It probably wasn't the worst day ever, but we still might say that just to make it seem that much worse than it was.

It's kind of my go-to example for movies so horrible that even the stars probably don't want to remember making it. :P

Actually, I have been corrected now. I really meant to say Kazaam, the movie with Shaq as a rapping genie that lives in a boombox.

Right, Kazaam. Must have been so bad that I'm trying to erase the real title from my brain so I can't remember it.

Exactly. And I think these people need to remember that there's a big difference between "worst movie ever" and "worst movie I've ever seen." For instance, I consider Gangs of the Dead to be the absolute worst piece of shit I've ever seen in my entire life. I would never watch it again, not even to laugh at it or to show my friends how bad it is, but I still wouldn't call it the worst movie ever because I know that someone somewhere has made a rancid abortion of a film that's somehow even worse.

I agree,I thought the first Hellboy was much better although I did kind of like Johann(the mist guy in the suit)he was kind of funny.

So what was the plot hole?

I like both films, but I feel that the plot, settings, and characters from the first were much more in the style of the Hellboy comics. The second movie is much more in Del Toro's signature style like Pan's Labyrinth, which is all very imaginative and beautiful, but it doesn't quite mesh with what I think of when I think of Hellboy. It's kind of like if you had Luke Skywalker fight a Predator. They're both great franchises in their own right, but they don't feel like they belong in the same universe ( ... )

oooh yeah I forgot about Liz melting the crown. You've got a point there. But I guess there wouldn't be a movie or a big Golden Army to show if if she just melts the crown.

I agree about Del Toro's style especially that weird winged creature that Liz sells her soul to,to save Hellboy, looked like something from Pan's Labyrinth.

You know, you're a smart individual, picking up stuff like that.Makes me think in a new light.

And that's exactly why it bothers me so much, literally the only reason we have for her not destroying the piece is because then we wouldn't get our super special awesome action sequence. And the really annoying part about it is that they easily could have invented some bullshit magic excuse for why the piece couldn't be destroyed on it's own, or at least some contrived plot twist that would keep it out of the heroes hands, and they didn't. It's like if you got to the end of the third Lord of the Rings movie and Frodo breaks the one ring by smashing it with a rock.

You are so right. Now if you want to talk about truly BAD movies, there are classics such as Death Tunnel or The Grudge. Even Killer Clowns From Outer Space wasn't the worst movie ever made. ;)

I give Killer Klowns a pass since it's obvious that everyone involved knew they were making a bad movie. Granted it's bad for all the wrong reasons, but at least it is somewhat intentional. :P
