The Museum of the Confederacy is in Richmond, right? I am reading Confederates in the Attic right now and JUST read the part where he goes there. I want to go there!

The main campus of it is, yes. We visited a brand new "satellite" museum that they opened in April 2012 in Appomattox. I'm not sure there were more than 2-3 mentions of slavery in the entire museum, and the exhibit label for Robert E. Lee's surrender sword was titled "Pure Romance." Ummm...

We brought Confederates in the Attic with us on the trip and read it aloud in the car for the parts of the country we were passing through. We'd both read it years ago but it was great to get his impressions of certain parts of our trip. I have to say, his impressions of Vicksburg, MS, are spot-on accurate. Ugh.

Oh, horses and their feet...Lucky's got a ground-level crack that the new farrier just epoxied to try and keep it together instead of splitting at the top, again--just when it is ALMOST grown out, though the bone-dry weather for the last month didn't help at all.

Oh, ugh. Tristan's got a pretty good crack in the same hoof as the abscess as well, I believe from the pressure that's built up. He usually has spectacular feet - this is the first real problem I've had with them in seven years of ownership. I'd seen enough people go through abscesses to have a sense of how miserable they are, and now that I have one of my very own, I can confirm: Not Fun.

Benny had a thin vertical crack on his left hind that came from an abscess that blew, and it never really went away. It didn't really BOTHER him, but it wasn't very pretty. I can only imagine it was a relief when the abscess finally burst.
