How old is Alex? I cannot remember. I do remember that when Giles was around 4-6 he would just WANT everything, and it was nonstop. Eventually it petered out, especially when we started talking about how things cost money, ete. Maybe it's just a 'PHASE'?
oh man i had a lot of american girl dolls when i was growing up - i had at least 5 or 6! but they were always birthday or christmas presents. also i was the youngest so i know i was spoiled in a way my siblings weren't, but at least you're recognizing the fact. also i feel like when youre 7 thats when you first begin to see what other people have and are aware of trying to be the same as the kids in your class.
yeah, i bought the first one for christmas last year , then the second one came on her birthday, and this one was suppose to be her big present. so it's not just like whenever, but still.
my kid probably has as much or more shiz than the other kids in her class. we don't have a ton of money for extra stuff and i am a horrible money manager. more than being angry with myself i am astounded by her lack of understanding of things. like for example, she wants a HUGE house etc etc. i think somewhere in her little brain she thinks we have like unending sources of income.
I think it's ok to tell her that the things she wants are too expensive for you to buy her. Kids need to find out about finances somehow and that there isn't aren't money trees growing wild. When Sarah was about that age and wanted stuff that we couldn't afford, I told her that maybe she could get that as a birthday or Christmas present. Or that maybe she could save her allowance and buy it herself. Of course, I am the mean mama who doesn't buy a lot of toys normally (unless it's a garage sale or Goodwill purchase.) I have to say that Sarah now is a fabulous saver and is very picky about her purchases. She no longer wants everything under the sun.
