Deep deep down past the asshole facade, how does Thomas view Allen?

Thomas denies that it's a façade, for one thing. But deep down, he recognizes his own noble/foolish attempts to deny his darker impulses in Allen. His own experiences coming face to face with his weaknesses still colour Thomas' worldview, so he believes that Allen's attempts will end in failure, but he hopes that they are successful.

Because that means there might still be hope for him yet.
