You'll have to post after your first day and let us know how it went. Does this mean you've only got until the 27th to get your room ready, though?
Out of curiosity, does the year 5/6 mean that they're 5/6 years old (what we would call kindergarten) or have they been in school that long (what we would call 5th/6th grade--they're ~11-12 years old)?
The 27th and 28th is to get my room ready - kids turn up on the 31st.
It's Year 5/6 meaning they are in their sixth and seventh year of school (the first year is un-numbered and we call it Reception :P) so they should be 10-12 years old, yes.
Yes, the majority would be 10 and 11. My daughter Georgia is going into Year 5 this year and was born in May 2000. She is the oldest in her year. So she is 10 going into Year 5 and will be 11 going into Year 6, but she'll be 12 by the time she finsihes Year 6.
Some of my Year 5s might be 9 and some of the Year 6s may already be 12 depending on when their birthday is and if they've been held back.
Congratulations, Kezza, I'm so excited for you! *jumps up and down, cheering* I know that sinking feeling and that follow-up elated one very well when it comes to job assignments you sorta want and the one you get that you really wanted and then get. Have a terrific year.
It was very difficult because I had literally no control over it. I didn't actually actively apply for anything it was them putting my name in! Most bizarre feeling ever - nothing i could do would affect the outcome. If the Department didn't want to palce me, they wouldn't have! Even if one school wanted me more the Department could still have done something crazy for reasons known only unto themselves!
