I think people have a wrong image of selflessness. They always think, this means a Mother Theresa selflessness, a life full of duty and no fun. But in truth I believe the selflessness asked of us, is a kind of self forgetfulness. It's about letting go of yourself and filling your mind with thoughts of other people and other things instead. If you look at it soberly, the self is one of the most uninteresting things you experience. It is with you ALL the time ... so why not directing yourself to care for those and for that which is not with you always, other people, other things. If you get that right, selflessness opens the road to better life, without it meaning an endless toil like unbelievers think it must be.

As always, Jesus is liberating.
