Califail 2010

What can I say about this con experience. It's actually hard to describe, because the entire event was largely lost in a fog of abject boredom. Not that I am one for attending the programmatic elements of any furcon, but really, there was not much in the way of options there. So, what about going to room parties, which has to this point been the ( Read more... )

Sounds like I definitely didn't miss anything by skipping, then...

not so much. It was entirely too reminiscent of 2008's Hyatt debacle.

It's funny you should mention the Hyatt. I was actually considering heading there for breakfast this morning in favor of swinging by the con, but I ended up skipping on both!

Oh, I'm sure breakfast there is awesome. I think both places are fantastic hotels, but are probably not the right place for a furry con. If we could find a rattier hotel much like the Holiday Inn but perhaps a little larger, that would probably fit the bill nicely. We just need more complete ownership of the venue so that we are not sharing it with proms and KROQ events, or weddings, or any of that nonsense. Not all was lost though, Jagerhous on Friday and Mama D's Italian on Saturday were highlights.

The irony is that a radio station which still likes to burnish its "sex, drugs and rock and roll" is responsible for killing the vibe of a convention with more of the former two than their listeners have likely ever seen.

oh, and also, wonder how many of KROQ's room parties were shut down by hotel security staff. No answer needed on that one, I believe

My opinion is still it is what you make of it at the very least since I had a good experience and made some friends, but we both do rely on room parties at least HAPPENING so I agree with ya there of course!

So since we know the next CaliFur is there again, It's not so much that they don't 'want' us, but don't need us toooo much.. so they'll go ahead and push us around, and their opinion of our flexibility is that the furries will simply adapt to that kind of situation that went down and deal with it and maybe they'll have our business again maybe not.
