Try searching for them by email address on Facebook. Hopefully, that will give you their names.

EDIT: Actually, I know you probably can't lock these devices down TOO much or Ted might have trouble using 'em, but did you enable GPS and the "find my iPad" service on the thing? If so (or if you can activate them remotely) you might just be able to figure out exactly where it is and forward that info to the appropriate authorities...
