Portrait of an obsession

I’ve noticed that a lot of people suffer from a kind of specific retail weakness, which manifests itself in buying a certain item more often than they really need to. This can be either because they don’t remember that they already have plenty of whatever it is, or just because they really like it and can’t resist ( Read more... )

No retail weakness other than books. I just wanted to say that I've ordered from Sock Dreams -- very girly socks for church -- and been very happy with them.

In the winter, I like to wear my hand-knitted wool socks best of all.

Oh, I'm very happy with my Sock Dreams socks too. It's just that I could happily have ordered half their catalogue. I've ordered from them before - there's really no British equivalent.

I want to knit woolly socks, too, though my last effort came out too small. I will try again, though. Handknitted socks are exempt from the embargo!

Are those black and red socks in the front left chili pepper socks? Because if so, I think I have an identical pair. I'm envious of the cherry ones.

I have something of a sock weakness myself, although my penchant for panties is stronger. I am quite sure I have AT LEAST 80 pairs of panties, and well... almost as many pairs of shoes. I'm terrible about shoes, and they're a bit pricier than socks OR panties.

No, I don't have any chili peppers - although if I saw any I would HAVE to get them. I have red hearts on black, blue and red hearts on black, and black spots on red...

The cherry socks are among my favourites too - they were Topshop, so if I ever see them again I'll send you some!

I love cherry print. What I really want is a black shirt with red cherries on it, but whenever I see such a thing it has something fundamental wrong with it. My handbag is cherry-print, though, so perhaps it's best not to cover myself in it.

Before I had things wrong with my feet, I was just as bad about shoes. I still love them, but they don't love me back.

I swear the response of every other person who's heard about my toe injury (not quite broken) has been, "So you're going to have to wear SENSIBLE SHOES!"

I also love cherry print. I have some cherry print pajamas, and a tote bag, and galoshes. And several pairs of panties. :p

I wasn't going to say it because IT IS NOT THAT FUNNY WHEN IT'S TRUE.

I do have some sensible shoes I like, but I mourn the days when I could wear heels, or anything not totally supportive, for more than a couple of hours and not want to cry. (Though I got some Indian beaded flats for Christmas which are completely frivolous and take my orthotics. I love them. Now I just need somewhere to wear them.)

She who dies with the most socks wins?

I'm sure that's not how it's supposed to go...

Oh! Dude, I once totally tried to start a novelty sock exchange/pyramid scheme. Sadly, it did not work out. :(

No particular retail weakness. I own a lot of shoes compared to most people, but that's because I am a fashionista. ;)

I suspect my biggest retail weakness is, and always has been, books.

At different times in my life I've accumulated what most people might consider excessive quantities of notebooks, crochet thread and implements, and flash memory; it varies depending on what my current hobby happens to be.

Also, I seem to have developed a need to have at least one spare six-pack of underwear around at all times, which sometimes means I find myself with three. All my socks are boring, though.

I do that with the underwear, as well... though I seem to be able to keep to one pack.
