A few Winters ago, I bought a mauve tweed coat. It was snuggly, warm and comfortable, everything one needs in a coat and more. Itwas rather expensive at the time, but it was an investment, I decided. I wore it all through the Winter of 2003 and 2004, and even though I put it away during 2005 I got it back out this year, only to discover pockets ( Read more... )

aww that's a shame. :-\

My mom has a purple jacket from the early 90's that's all big puffy and so it looks a lot like Grimace too. (And she still wears it.

Eek. Something tells me that you need to hijack that jacket right quick and replace it with something nice! That's what I did when my mother wouldn't stop carrying around this gross, boxy old bag - I bought her a nice new leather one and she loves it. Never even asks about the old bag anymore!

Had your friend seen you wearing it before she asked to borrow it??

Maybe it just looks better on you?

That's the funny thing, she had - I had been wearing it all morning!

I was thinking that there might be some coat magic that made it look fabulous on me, but after I wrote the entry above I went and tried it on...no. Just...no. I was so horrified that I'd been wearing it for years without knowing, I can just imagine people saying, "There's Kate in that hideous coat...bloody hell, it's the same one she was wearing last Winter!".

Well I'm hoping that it got stretched or something which is why it looks bad now.. Just tell yourself somethign happened to it and it hasn't always looked that bad. There must have been something that made you buy it in the first place. It's not like you just picked it up in the shop one day and said "I'll take this" without trying it on and looking in the mirror...

Did you? :S

Knowing me, I probably did, actually. Only recently have I started doing the whole 'try clothes on before I buy them' thing, and even then I like to get things home and have a bit of a fashion show before I decide if they're keepers or not.
