I'm IN NEW YORK!!!!!!!!!!! Our hotel room looks right out on the Empire State Building- looking straight up from our window you can *barely* see the top of it. It's about a block away. Amazing.

I want way more details then that but just this once I will not bitch but only gently remind you that I will want every detail of all the fun you are having without me ad that if you really really have to I can wait until you get home. Mostly because a trip is to expensive to waste on the computer. But I want to hear about the big stuff like plays and museums as well as little stuff like where you ate, and who you thought you saw crossing th street and how cute the bell boy is. I hope you are having the best time ever!

It sounds like you're having a blast! Tell me if you see anything cool that was featured in Sex and the City.

hey! you're right by where my school will be next year.

now, it's not as fun as it once was because you can't smoke and they acquired an evilly-aggressive waitstaff, but if you want to see the place where i spent two years of my life, you should go to the esperanto cafe on macdougal between west third and bleecker streets. from where you are you'll want to take the b or d train (or f or q, if they stop there) downtown from herald square, get off at west fourth street--which is the next stop if the train is running express.

you should also spend some time wandering around the east village/lower east side...

unfortunately, this is the first snippet of time and access i've had in the last few days, so i didn't get to follow your tip... on *this* trip. i'm smitten with the city and plan on many returns.

they're trying to pass a ban in louisville, where i live, to ban smoking from restraunts and bars too. i agree that it's not the healthiest thing to do in the world, but banning it from eating and drinking establishments is preposterous. let's see... you're chugging whiskey, eating deep fried food, but god forbid you smoke a cigarette-- *that* isn't healthy behaviour like the rest.

new york is a blast. i've had so much fun here. and felt incredibly comfortable, non-intimidated and oddly at home.

Well, I think the point is less about what you're doing, and more about what you're inflicting on other sitting next to you. You don't suffer from second-hand steak when I eat red meat, but I *do* have to breathe your smoke if you're puffing away at a nearby table. I don't see it as reasonable in a drinking establishment, but I can definitely see the benefit in all-ages restaurants. Of course, I live in Indy, so I'm not voting on Louisville bans one way or another.

Nice to see you this weekend! Hope to see you again soon!

*hugs*

I, personally, don't oppose a ban for smoking in all-ages establishments. But the ads they're running here show sixty year old waitresses talking about how even though they don't smoke, they served in smoking sections and got lung cancer. It upsets me because I'm sure that *does* happen, but we're siding with them assuming that smoking and second-hand smoking is the sole cause of lung cancer. Sometimes, like prostate, bone-marrow and cervix, cancer just shows up ( ... )

I haven't had access to internet this whole time, and I prolonged my stay a day so I am still here but happened upon access. Anyway, I promise lots of details of my trip. But I'm paying for every minute online right now, so you'll just have to wait.
