So, I ran into my debate partner (you know, the perfect stranger from this entry) today in the Ferg. Now, for those of you who do not know me personally, I did not say this horrid, vulgar word without a damned good reason. A few months ago, at dinner in the Commons, I listened to this particular young man rant and rave about those "Goddamn faggots" for nearly 15 minutes. The whole time I bit my tongue and kept to my own business, but he decided he wanted to hear my opinion on the matter after seeing the disgust register on my face. Well, I most certainly gave him my opinion and told him that his use of the word "faggot" was tantamount to me saying "n----r." After I said it, I felt so dirty, like I had been transformed into some backwood-rebel trash. I hated having to stoop to his level, but if I had to do it over again, I think I would.

Very. My wonderfully articulate (cough*hack* snort*ptooey) partner was indeed black, and by my logic, should have been more aware of the weight of his words. You would think that someone who knows what it is like to be shit on by society would have a little more compassion for his fellow man, no matter his race, sexual orientation, etc.
