Running/Hunting Reboot update

Feb 25, 2013 02:00

onborrowedwings asked about my project, so I thought I would post an update. Sorry I haven't been around much, a couple of things have happened in my real life, so livejournal and fandom have taken a (relative) backseat. My husband got laid off recently which digs into my insecurities about financial instability, so a little mopey there. And work has been more ( Read more... )

Thank you maracuyakongeen, I feel a little guilty being so mopey as other people have it so much worse. By no mean am I in "reduced circumstances."

I love Mucha, and wanted the cover to have the subtle eroticism of Mucha and a Los Angeles based artist named Audrey Kawasaki who draws girls in the Art Nouveau/Manga style (the cover is loosely based on Kawasaki's She Entwined). I'm pleased with the result as I searched long for the right Sansa look, the kind that would set all those men's hearts aflame. I found this one model on flickr and I think her face is just perfect. I can stare at it all day!

I'm glad you enjoyed the other illustrations as well. My husband didn't like the upside down orientation, but that was my idea to convey subtle panic and Im glad you found it effective.

All in all, one really feels compelled to breathe: "Holy Seven!"
Aw, your comments are too good. Thank you for your sustained interest in my little project.

Thank you! Its by JDarnell (that's her Deviant Art handle). This is just a humble fanfic but I'm trying to make it look as good as a professional illustrated novella.

I got the concept from Los Angeles artist Audrey Kawasaki who does these illustrations of girls in the Art Nouveau/Manga style. She's pretty famous these days but there was a time I could have afforded her work and ...passed. Drats!

No worries, no hurry! And I of all people totally understand about real life interfering with fandom. My significant other lost his job last May and the month or so that he went without one was probably the scariest thing that's happened to me/us since we've been married, because we really do rely on both of our incomes, unfortunately :-/

We're ok financially regardless of this setback but I grew up pretty poor and the fear of poverty is like a splinter that I just can't pull of my palm. I dont really have cause to be so mopey when other people in this economy have it so much worse. I'm sorry to hear about your husband losing his job last May and the resultant fear and turmoil. Im glad to hear it was just a month though before he got back on his feet again. Hopefully his new position makes him not unhappy.

I'd tagging you on the 10 random facts meme but dont feel like you have to do it given all your gazillion commitments.

Will send them out those bookmarks next week, just got to find an hour or so to finish the embroidery and then have hubby mail them off - he's got the time now ;)

Yeah, while I didn't grow up poor per se, my parents really did struggle to make ends meet. We always had a decent roof over our heads and food on the table, but we didn't have anything in the way of extras, and that was with my dad working a job that kept him away from home for about 11 hours a day, and him and my mom cleaning people's houses and doctors' offices on the side. Last year when my husband was out of work there was a short period of panic, but thankfully between my day job and my singing we were able to figure out that we would JUST be able to make ends meet. Unfortunately "making ends meet" meant cutting out some things *and* paying just minimum payments on our credit card...but honestly we were still lucky. And he's thankfully way better off in his new job than he was at his old one - previously he worked for a smaller company with no way to move up, now he works for a huge international corporation and after a couple of years there he should - hopefully - have a lot more options.

Thanks again for the bookmarks etc. <3

Sorry to hear about your husband, I hope things pick up soon.
The art work is delicious! Is the skeleton a hare?

Thanks! It is a hare skeleton to recall the title. I thought a fluffy bunny would be too cute. Rabbits are so just so cute and contaminate everything they are in with cuteness. I didn't think cute was the right mood for this fic and its themes, hence creepy skeleton!

Thank you! I'm very pleased with it and am working with the artist, JDarnell on another piece for the fanfic. She is too good.
