It sucks, but I often just ignore America unless I feel like being angry.

Remember when the Westboro Baptist Church did their "God hates everyone" rally thing outside a funeral for a young soldier? The father of that soldier sued them and lost because it's their constitutional right to be wherever they want and say whatever they want.
Their signs saying "America needs more dead soldiers", signs held by a 10yr old boy.

Augh.

Same time, did you see the rally in support of Planned Parenthood in New York? That was some good stuff.

Yeah, the Westboro Baptist Church does that constantly. The trick is to not give them any publicity, and counter their hate signs with silly ones. They want people to be angry with them, so we have to just make them look like the joke they are.
They have been banned from Canada, by the way, which is nice.

This restores my faith in humanity a bit.

Also why would they *WANT* more dead soldiers? I don't get it.

I feel like this video has skipped over some important issues in this protest. It must be showing only the parts where a loud minority shouted racist nonsense statements about the constitution being Christian and brown people with beards being terrorist. There has to be more to it than that for elected officials to show up and show support.

Although I really do wish people would stop making so many references to patriotism, founding fathers, their “rights” and the constitution. These things are rarely justification for anything.

Anyway, don’t get too down on the human race about this stuff. There are way more people doing interesting and reasonable things, but retarded fanatics make much better news.

I suppose this is true, and the source I got it from was a tad biased (a blog which tries to bring awareness to and ultimately eradicate the mindless racism against muslims in America) but given the state of things in the states, with some people's willingness to throw the term "terrorist" at anyone with a headscarf, I am not as surprised as I should be at such a display of hatred. Y'know? And honestly, the way some of the protesters were acting was really childish and bullyish. Shouting slurs and telling them "Why don't you go back home and beat your weenie to child porn" and such. Or "Why don't you go beat your wife". I just thought that, regardless of circumstances, they just seemed to be using the protest to insult them, not make a difference.
