I read that section of the transcripts to the Rockhubby. You can imagine the reaction, especially considering he interned at the Geological Survey.

I can't help but giggle at the thought of a Republican using the term 'lard' anywhere metaphorically in discussing wasteful spending on anyone's behalf. As if any large enough body of politicians these days show such a svelte, streamlined portrait of American legislation.

Why watch volcanos? It's not like any have ever gone off on American soil before, right? cough MT ST HELENS cough And never mind that crap, most volcanos are overseas and don't even impact American weather patterns or water tables, true? cough KRAKATOA cough

Then again, most die-hard Republicans think that polar bears are whiny bitches. Forgive me if their ecological prowess is less than impressive.
