[Alright, now that the dust has settled after Oswald's first ever experiment, it's time for him to get down to business. First things first, and that's getting in touch with the Malnosso CEO. Filters? Nope, never heard of that. Oswald's calling him out publicly.]

Hey, I'm looking for this guy calling himself Catherine. Ya know, the big chief ( Read more... )

I've yet to come across anyone who couldn't speak for themselves, in one fashion or another.

But if everyone started talkin' for themselves, there'd be a big mess and nobody would be heard anymore.

I'd heard from another resident that there were talks to form some sort of council but nobody could quite agree on things so the idea was dropped.

Besides that, I think we all get along here pretty well and we can all speak up for ourselves as well so there isn't really much use for a mayor.

A... council? [Several people as equal figureheads? But... but... That makes no sense.]

Well, geez, no wonder that was dropped. Why would the village be better off with a council?

Anyway, what if there's... an invasion? Yeah, an invasion of residents from a neighboring village, who hold the grocery store hostage? What then? Ya'd need one person to work out the demands in our best interest, right? We can't all just stand there, shoutin' things at them.

The guilds will step in to take care of that. Like the one I'm a member of. We help with defending the village. It's called the Blue Rogues.

We have a few people like that already, although they don't make themselves famous like a king.

Really? Like who?

Raine Sage, and Albert Silverberg, to name a few.

Oh, right, because Raine wrote that long guide and Albert is- [He breaks off suddenly. It's a good thing he remembered he's not supposed to mention the laptop network.]

... Is really up to date too. Right. But does that make them the leaders of this place, or more like the information desk?

Tch, half of the village wouldn't listen to some shitty king. We've got people from all over the universe, and a huge number of us like to do our own thing.

But what one person does isn't always gonna suit another person. Like... What if you want to build a house on a certain spot, and another villager wants to build an ice cream parlor there instead? Then what, huh?

They figure it out amongst themselves, of course.

Besides, most of the villagers here can work well enough without a figure head. It's not a requirement.

I guess so... It's just nice to have, ya know? Comforting.
