A week in houston & I'm at last home.  texas is an ugly, heartless place.  In a week I saw two birds & 400 powerpoint slides.  In the end I made a connection with the trainers, they're out of their depth.  M&A.  It's the phrase on everyone's lips down there, money moving & lives bought & sold.

I don't really believe in synonyms.  I think that the real merit of English as a language is its acquisitiveness & accumulation of vocabulary.  My imaginary future has a reconciliation of English, my favorite language & Chinese, my favorite writing system, but in real life anyway, I stick mainly with English because I have mastery over it that I ( Read more... )

I like that old writers are sometimes regarded as crazed because of a tenuous relationship with reality.  I remember as a kid, and don't know if it's true, but still heard a lot about how old JRR had it in him to think what he'd written was true.
